Trinity House Lights and buoys maintenance vessel the MV Galatea in metal.
Trinity House support ship MV Galatea
THV Galatea was launched in 2006 for Trinity House and her home port is Harwich. She serves the automatic lighthouses, buoys and beacons along the coasts of England, Wales and the Channel Islands.
Galatea provides aids to navigation for the safe passage of mariners, including maintenance work, buoy deployment, wreck location marking and towing. She is also able to carry out additional tasks such as hydrographic surveying and wreck finding and contract commercial work. She is also equipped for: lifting, towing and accurate positioning of marine equipment, sea trials of electronic and speciality equipment, helicopter support, safety boat assignments and guard duties for cable and pipe laying projects.
Galatea and her sister ship, Pharos were built by Remontowa of Gdansk, Poland in 2006/07. She is 85metres in length, 3599 gross tonnes and has 7 officers and 11 crew.
I saw her in 2019 in the Bristol Channel outside Ilfracombe harbour and thought that she and her sister would be a good addition to any ship collection.
